The 1st President of the United States,George Washington at 11 years old inherited 10 slaves. When he married he had over 200 Black men,women and children enslaved. The 3rd President,Thomas Jefferson owned plantations totaling thousands of acres and hundreds of Black men,women and children during his lifetime. The 4th President,James Madison grew up in a slave-owning family and enslaved Black men,women and children all his life. The 5th President,James Monroe enslaved 30 to 40 Black men,women and children. In 1794 The 7th President, Andrew Jacksons business included slave trading and he had purchased at least 16 enslaved Black people. In the 1820s Jackson enslaved about 160 Black men,women and children. The 8th President, Martin Van Buren enslaved 1 Black man, Tom, who ran away in 1814. The 9th President, William Henry Harrisons father and grandfather owned many enslaved Blacks. He took 7 of them with him to the Northwest Territory in 1800 where slavery was illegal. The 10th President, John Tyler was a slaveholder for his entire life. The 11th President, James K. Polk in 1832 had 15 Black people enslaved. The 12th President, Zachary Taylor owned more than 100 Black men,women and children. The 15th President, James Buchanan enslaved 2 Black people. The 17th President, Andrew Johnson enslaved 8 Black people. The 18th President, Ulysses S.
